W..W..W Wednesday (July 25)

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

My answers:

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading The Vindico by Wesley King. He’s a debut, local author who is coming in to my book store to do a signing on August 18 from 1-5. The book is alright sofar.. I usually keep my expectations low for debut authors.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished reading The Starters by Lissa Price. The YA Book Club picked it for July’s book club at my book store. I can say I sufficiently enjoyed it but it was way to similar to the Hunger Games. I’ll probably write a review on it in the next couple of days. It was truly uncanny the resemblance the two stories had to one another.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m thinking something John Green.. I think I’ve had enough dystopian/post-apocalyptic for the time being. Why John Green? Well, I promised the YA Book Club that we could do a month of reading anything and everything John Green. Also, I entered the book club into a special contest John Green is hosting for a few lucky book clubs to win a 20 minute phone conversation with him during their book club. But who knows what I’ll read next, I have to make it good since school is fast approaching which means I won’t have any time to read what I really want.

Teaser Tuesdays (July 24)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser:

“He’d been practically begging the Torturer for more information about the League and the Vindico, but his mentor always put him off”

“‘So far, we have been concentrating on preparing you for the drastic physical and mental changes you will face'”

— p. 157, The Vindico by Wesley King

Liebster Awards! So exciting!

Today I was nominated for the Liebster Award by my fellow blogger William from Two Weeks from Everywhere. I’m a little shocked but honoured to be nominated! So, here we go with the responses to the questions asked!

As I read Two Weeks from Everywhere’s submission for his nomination I learned a bit about what the Liebster Award is all about!

It is:

The Liebster Blog Award is given to bloggers with less than 200 followers …  and is a sneaky way to get to know the person behind the blog.

How did I get nominated??

Well, here are the rules for the award:

  1. Each person must post 11 facts about themselves.
  2. Answer 11 questions the tagger has given you and give 11 questions for the people you’ve tagged.
  3. Choose 11 people and link them in your post. Tell them you’ve tagged them.
  4. Remember, no tag backs.

S0,  here’s my response to 11 facts about myself

  1. I live in Ontario, Canada with my mom
  2. My birthday is September 27 and I usually spend the entire Summer prior to it planning something extravagant
  3. I graduated from Humber College in 2010 and currently attend York University
  4. I’m absolutely terrified of raccoons! I scream like a little girl when I see them
  5. My dream profession is becoming a teacher but due to the over-saturation of the field I was forced to take a different career path
  6. I have 3 cats
  7. I work at Chapters Indigo and I can literally say it feeds into my reading addiction
  8. I prefer overcast days to sunny days
  9. I have an obsession with painting my nails, I absolutely love nail art!
  10. I’m an awesome baker, I bake all kinds of cupcakes and other sweet treats
  11. My favourite colour is green!

Anddd, my answers to Two Weeks from Everywhere questions!

Here are the eleven questions I would like you to answer:

  1. What is your favourite book of all time? This is totally the hardest question ever to answer! So, top 3! The Time Traveler’s Wife, Atonement and A Thousand Splendid Suns.
  2. Can you read with noise going on or must you have complete silence? I used to be picky and had to read in silence, I almost always read in my bedroom. I take public transit and now I read while I wait for the bus.
  3. Do you have a problem letting go of a book, even if it was one you didn’t particularly like? I had big issues after I read the Hunger Games trilogy. I didn’t like the ending to Mockingjay but I’m sure I’m not the only one. Also, for YA Book Club we read The Eleventh Plague and that book did not sit well with me! Ugh..
  4. What are your main interests outside of reading? I love baking, blogging, knitting and doing genealogy research
  5. Star Wars or Star Trek? Definitely Star Wars!!
  6. Who is your favourite author? James Dashner! He writes the Maze Runner trilogy. Can’t wait for The Kill Order, out in August!
  7. Coffee or tea? I’m definitely a tea lover!
  8. Do you ever listen to audio books? If not, why not? I haven’t listened to audio books before. I find I’m the type of learner that needs to read it myself rather than listen.
  9. Where is your favourite place to read? This is probably weird, but I love to read on the bus.
  10. Do you own an e-reader? If not, why not? I own a Kobo and a Playbook w/ a Kobo app on it. I still read LOTS of books and occasionally read off the Kobo.
  11. Do you always finish a book, regardless of whether you like it or not? I’ll put the book down and go back to it eventually. I usually do finish it, regardless how hard it is.

Friday Finds — Fiction Edition (July 6)

I figure I dedicate a majority of my book posts to YA fiction and not enough to true hearty adult fiction. How does it work? Well.. FRIDAY FINDS (hosted by Should Be Reading) showcases the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased). I’m always adding new books to my Goodread’s account and have created numerous shelves for them. So, here we go!

My Finds:

You can click on any one of the covers and you’ll be directed to the GoodReads info page for the novel.

What are some of your finds this week? (Doesn’t have to be themed like mine!)

Please subscribe, comment, and check out my GoodReads account !

Booking Through Thursday — Periodically (July 5)

Booking Through Thursday asked:

So other than books … what periodicals do you read? Magazines? Newspapers? Newsletters? Journals?

Do you subscribe? Or do you buy them on the newsstand when they look interesting?

My answer:
In the past I’ve tried numerous forms of periodicals. I like to pick up the occasional Maclean’s Magazine. It’s released weekly and covers current affairs in Canada. I’ve thought about getting a subscription in the past and I’m sure sometime in the future I’ll get one. I’ve also been a previous subscriber of the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail and National Post. All newspapers that serve the Greater Toronto Area and across Canada. Since I work in a bookstore I’m kept up to date by the marketing departments of certain publishers as to what’s to come in the book world. I’m also subscribed to a few authors blogs on Twitter and it helps me keep up to date with new novels from my favourite authors. Since I’ve joined WordPress I’ve began to follow many of my readers blogs. As for any other magazines I see I usually just purchase them if the front page seems appealing or read them on my break while at work. (Definite luxury for sure!)

What about you?! What do you prefer? Leave comments below! Don’t forget to subscribe.

Happy Reading! 🙂

W..W..W Wednesday! (July 4)

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

My answers:

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Starters by Lissa Price for the YA book club I host at work. I’m only a chapter in and I’m totally loving it already!

What did you recently finish reading?
Chose this last week as my most recent completed novel.. I’ve had a hard time finding a novel to read. I finished this one back in April and tried to read several other novels since but haven’t been into any of them.

What do you think you’ll read next?
I got an ARC of this novel a month back or so. It doesn’t come out officially until the end of September. The author is a local author and I want to read it in advance andsee if I can get the author to come in for YA book club in October.

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own WWW Wednesdays post. See you next week! 🙂
